Are you always looking for someone to totally care for you? You know, the person or people who will be with you no matter what. Even when you have morning breath or need a haircut or don’t feel like working? That person who will float the bills for a bit while you breathe deeply the beauty all around?
If so, read on but you might not like what I have to say…
1. Are you a person who truly cares for you?
I know what you’re thinking. I’m that for everyone else. Why doesn’t anyone do that for me? What if you have to start by caring for you no matter what you look like, no matter how you feel, no matter how much money is in the bank, and no matter what seems to be going on around you?
Most of us have been taught to do something in order to get something so we think that if we care for others they’ll return the favor. The problem with this is that we close off our awareness of who actually does care. Have you ever had the experience of a stranger buying your coffee or carrying your grocery bags for you? This is the caring that the Universe has to offer and when we function from do-to-get, we expect certain things from certain people rather than receiving the gifts all around us that could be possible.
2. Have you misidentified caring as carrying?
Often times we’re quick to carry someone’s pain and sadness as the way to show we care. How can you tell if you’re doing this? Tap into your body for a moment. Is it light and joyful or do you feel condensed and heavy? If you’re not feeling like Fred Astaire you might be carrying for someone rather than caring for them. Sometimes this happens without our even knowing who we’re carrying for and the super weird thing is that we might be carrying for someone on the other side of the planet who we’ve never even met!
What if giving the people in your Universe back their pain and sadness is what will actually give them the possibility to change something? And what if you being as smiley, light, and joyful as you can be is what will inspire the sad people around you to choose something different? You’ve all heard of co-dependency, right? What if this is something you can actually perceive with your body? Return it to sender and see what happens.
What if it’s time to start caring for you?
How joyful can you be today?
